What is Pediatric Physical Therapy?

Pediatric physical therapy is a specialized branch of physical therapy focused on the evaluation, treatment, and management of infants, children, and adolescents with movement difficulties, developmental delays, or physical disabilities. We incorporate play as a central component of the treatment approach. Play is an essential and natural activity for children, and it offers numerous benefits for their physical, cognitive, social, and emotional development. By integrating play into therapy sessions, we can create a fun and engaging environment that encourages active participation and enhances the child’s overall progress.
When should you seek help?
consider REaching out to us for further Physical Therapy evaluation and guidance if your child is experiencing any of the following:
- Developmental Delays: If your child is not meeting developmental milestones within the expected timeframe. This may include delays in sitting, crawling, walking, or other gross motor skills.
- Motor Skill Difficulties: If your child has trouble with coordination, balance, or frequent falls/clumsiness, along with movement abilities, such as running, jumping, or ball play.
- Orthopedic Conditions or Injuries: If your child has an orthopedic condition, such as scoliosis, clubfoot, or a fracture, or has experienced an injury that affects their physical function.
- Neurological Conditions: If your child has a neurological condition, such as cerebral palsy, spina bifida, or muscular dystrophy, which impacts their movement abilities.
- Posture and Body Alignment Issues: If your child exhibits postural problems or abnormal body alignment, pediatric physical therapy can assist in addressing these concerns and promoting proper alignment and posture.
- Assistive Device Needs: If your child requires assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, walkers, or orthotics, a pediatric physical therapist can assess, recommend, and ensure proper fitting and usage of these devices.
